Basic tips to begin the floor covering

1/ Start the installation in such a way that the other parts of construction are finished

2/ When starting the floor covering, you must work in order to have a perfect balance on both horizontal and vertical directions.

3/ Metal infrastructure should be implemented as light as possible.

4/ Each 30cm, you must fix a 40*40 cm rail on the metal infrastructure. It should look like a crossroad. This is used for all kind of decks.

5/ The distance between nails on the rail must be 30cm

6/ The first nail must be 4 to 6cm from the beginning of the rail

7/ To install the wooden foundations on the cement, you should screw it with galvanized or stainless steel with dowels with a minimum length of 6 cm. Take care of introducing it carefully in the wood in order to prevent breaking it. Conditions are the same to fix rails to the metal infrastructure.

8/ Before installing any screw, you must first make a hole with a drill. Do not screw the nail directly in the wood.

9/ In cases where it is necessary to adjust the underside with infrastructure components make sure to use special wood plastic profiles made for undersides, or use waterproof materials or aluminum. Do not use pieces made of fiber or paper and cardboard.


General notes on façade mounting

1/ Before starting the installation, cut the wood in accordance with your scheme and the metal infrastructure.

2/ For fences in front of the terraces, you can use U-shaped or L-shaped corners which provides the required space for swelling and movement in order to fix it on a metal infrastructure. Pieces must be made of high quality stainless steel or galvanized aluminum. There must be 1 or 2 mm bigger than the fences. To contain two corners profiles, make sure that the nails are made of galvanized steel. This is also true for all kinds of louvers. Before installing any screw, you must first make a hole with a drill.

3/ The space between fences or louvers is defined by the employer, but consider the fact that the underside is visible and a specific coverage is required

4/ Screws to install façade woods or louvers or decks on wood undersides should be made of galvanized or stainless steel and must be wood screws.

5/ At each connection, it is recommended to install two screws symmetrically to fix the façade on the wood underside.

6/ At first, wood tries to find a lengthwise elongation and if he can’t it will grow in width. It is necessary to ensure that the wood will have enough place to extend itself. At the end of your installation you must have a 15 mm span between your work and the wall. This is also true for parking doors and installation with shorter beams, then the span on each side must be reduced to 3 mm.

7/ Installation instructions of Afra’s wood-plastic profiles will vary based on the kind of applications. Here are some tips on how to install our products:

  • Our flooring decks can hold around 485 kg per square meter
  • These profiles cannot be used as permanent structures; it can only be used for decorative surfaces.

How to maintain and prepare Afra’s profiles

1/ Keep the profiles away from direct sunlight

2/ To stock the profiles, put on each other horizontally

3/ Stock the profiles in a dry and ventilated place

4/ We suggest to open the wrapping 48 hours before starting the installation. This is because the profiles will adapt with the ambient air and the slight discoloration caused by sun exposure will be eliminated and over time will help for the stability of the profiles’ colors.


Network infrastructure conditions

1/ To be sure that the ventilation is well done and to prevent water to stagnate under Afra’s WPC beams, you must install a network of wood plastic composite under it.

2/ This process comes under various names including network infrastructure.

3/ Dimension of those networks are, based on the use with other Afra’s products, 30mm*60mm. You can find them under the name ‘rail’ with the code R700.

4/ This rails must be perpendicular to the main profiles and in concordance with the inclination in order to simplify water evacuation.

5/ If vertical installation of rails is not possible, it is recommended to use plastic spacers with a height of 5mm in order to ease the water evacuation.

6/ You can not use Afra’s WPC profiles in water or in places with no water evacuation. Do not forget that 50% of this material is made of wood.

7/ It is possible that in some situations, depending on your project, the rail must be fixed at 45 degrees to the main profiles. In this condition, spacing between the infrastructure must be reduced.


+ 20 cm spacing for 45 degrees

+ 10 cm spacing for 30 degrees


Infrastructure installation methods:

1/ The first method, fix the network infrastructure to the concrete surface with screws and plugs to prevent it from moving

2/ In the floating method, the network infrastructure is deleted and profiles are not screwed to the floor. They are first fixed on 30*30 cm tiles, then the tiles are fixed next to each other. This plastic network will play the part of the metal network infrastructure.

3/ While installing the network, make sure that you respect the standard 10mm at the top and the bottom of your work.

4/ Ideal spacing between the beam and the wall is between 15 and 20 cm.







  1. It is necessary to respect the expansion seams in accordance to table1
  2. Make sure that the top (the head) of the beam is fixed to the network
  3. At the end of the installation, fix the last beam using an ending clip on the network
  4. After installing all beams, cut down the lengths using a circular saw to make all beams the same length
  5. If necessary, cover the extremities with Afra’s plastic caps.
  6. If you use the baseboard respecting to the 8 mm expansion joint between the beam and the baseboard is mandatory
  7. To install the baseboard, the standard spacing between screws is maximum 30cm. This will largely prevent from thermal expansion-contraction
  8. If plastic caps are used, 3cm until the end of the beam, four 15mm diameter holes must be made in order to be sure that the water evacuation takes place.
  9. If the beams are installed in a V form, observing proper distance for expansion in joints should not be forgotten


How to install beams

1/ Standard spacing between beams depends on time and local conditions and must follow the coming rules:

  • Spacing between beams must be: 5mm in spring and fall, 7mm in summer and 3mm in winter. This is actually an expansion span (see table 1) which, in addition to the possible expansion of beams, also allows snow and rain to easily pass through it and fall under.
  • In order to make the distance between beams regular, it’s better to use clips in between intervals.
  • In cases where the flooring is installed with specific binding, specific clips for example, the distance between the two branches will be based on the clips’ thickness.

2/ In order to prevent the beams to curve upward, it is absolutely necessary to attach and screw the beams’ tops and ends to the network bellow. For branches with a length of 3.6 meters, the curving can be up to 12 mm.

3/ Make sure that the screws are not screwed to tight

4/ In cases where there is a possibility of cutting the end of the beam, remember to place the beam ahead of the bottom line, because in the end you will be able to cut with more accuracy

6/ Beams can be fixed to the infrastructure with different angles (90 °, 45 °…)

Some essential points regarding the installation of AFRA’s WPC profiles

1/ After installing the first beam on the infrastructure (the beams must be screwed to the center of the infrastructure installation at least 3cm from the edge of the beam in order to prevent breaking) put a connection clips into the first beam’s socket, then fix the next beam to the first one without putting pressure on it or pushing too hard. It is recommended to fix the beams to the infrastructure one by one. If the first beam is not installed correctly, the impact will be seen on the entire work.

2/ Infrastructure installation instructions should be strictly respected

3/ The infrastructure must be completely hidden under the installed beams

4/ The gap between beams and the wall must be respected

5/ The last beam must be fixed before the second to last beam

6/ For tile beams, products installation must start from the center of the project

7/ Tile models must be carefully screwed at junctions and they can be cut based on the form of your project (for example if it’s not straight)

8/ It is absolutely necessary to respect the gap between beams for water evacuation

9/ AFRA’s profiles cannot be used as permanent structures

Please avoid the following mistakes during installation

1/ Putting the infrastructure in concrete

2/ Not respecting the recommended distance in the infrastructure

3/ Not respecting the recommended distance between the infrastructure and the wall

4/ Over tightening the screws

5/ Always make sure that you have a good ventilation and water evacuation
